Twist Boat Definition:

A Twist boat is a confirmation of cyclohexane that is lower in energy than a boat conformation but higher in energy than a chair conformation.

Twist Boat Explained:

The twist boat conformation is a variation of the boat conformation in which a significant portion of the flagpole interactions is relieved.

  • Boat Formation – High Steric strain (d1>d2) and high torsional strain (eclipsing of C-H bonds)
  • Twist Boat – Less steric strain than the boat. Less torsional strain than boat (less eclipsing)
