Resolving Agents

Resolving Agents Definition:

A compound that can be used to achieve the resolution of enantiomers.

Resolving Agents Explained:

Since enantiomers have identical physical properties, such as solvability and melting point, solution is extremely difficult. Diastereomers, have different physical properties, and this fact is used to achieve resolution of racemates. Reaction of a racemate with an enantiomerically pure chiral reagent gives a variety of diastereomers, which can be separated.
