E1cb Mechanism Definition:

An elimination reaction in which the leaving group only leaves after deprotonation occurs. This process occurs at the end of an aldol condensation.

E1cb Mechanism Explained:

The elimination reaction where carbanion formation follows the next step of expulsion of the leaving group of a carbon. The formation of Pi bonds is also present after elimination, leaving of the group expulsion is the rate determining step.
