Coupling (of Protons) Definition:

A phenomenon observed most commonly for nonequivalent protons connected to adjacent carbon atoms in which the multiplicity of each signal is affected by the other.

Coupling (of Protons) Explained:

The subatomic particles in an atom spin in their own axis, giving them a magnetic feature, so the protons that are connected to the Carbon atom react to each other’s energetic and magnetic forces.
